Wild Blue Bells

Gardening in North Yorkshire presents so many exciting opportunities but confounds the me at the same time. We are located at a latitude of 54 degrees North. That puts us on the same level of Minsk and Lake Baikal in Russia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Gulf of Alaska. Prior to living here, I would have thought that living this far north would have significantly limited what I could grow in my garden. But thanks to the North Atlantic Drift and living only 100 miles inland, we have and astounding climate comparable to the USDA Hardiness Zone 9.

Zone 9 in northern England!!! I would have never imagined it!

Our temperate climate allows for breathtaking roses, clematis vines that boggle the mind, wild azaleas, rhododendrons and so many other temptations for gardeners!

Cherry Blossoms

Clematis

ONE rambling rose bush

Wisteria

Azaleas

Azaleas bigger than a car!

Azaleas are wild in the forests.

Azaleas and Rhododendrons

This place is a gardens dream!

Lilacs are trees not bushes here!

Mock Orange

Fox Glove

Clematis come in a wide variety including scented cultivars!

The gardening options are endless here!

A very wise woman once told me that life is about the story we tell at the end of the chapter. If statistics are to be believed, I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning. I’ve quit the race to see who can have the office with best view or the most impressive job title. I’ve made peace with the fact there are some of my early dreams/goals that will never be realized. I love who I am and the women I have become AND boy do I have stories to tell!
