An Aussie Christmas Carol

Writer: PaulaPaula

Australians are proud of their county and heritage. They also lean a bit more toward the pragmatic than the creative. This trend accounts for them changing the words to well known traditional Christmas carols insteading of bothering to think up new songs that will only be sung a few weeks out of each year.

In case you had trouble following the lyrics, I took the time to type them up for you. Don’t be afraid to email me if you need any of it translated to American.

Aussie Jingle Bells By Colin Buchanan & Nick Bland

Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden ute, Kicking up the dust, esky in the boot. Kelpie by my side, singing Christmas songs, It’s summertime and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way! Christmas in Australia on a scorching summer’s day, hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is a beaut! Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden ute.

Engine’s getting hot, we dodge the kangaroos, The swaggie climbs aboard – he is welcome too. All the family’s there, sitting by the pool, Christmas Day the Aussie way, by the barbeque.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way! Christmas in Australia on a scorching summer’s day, hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is a beaut! Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden ute.

Come the afternoon, Grandpa has a doze, The kids and Uncle Bruce are swimming in their cloths. The time comes ‘roud to go; we take a family snap, Park the car and all shoot through, before the washing-up.

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way! Christmas in Australia on a scorching summer’s day, hey! Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is a beaut! Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden ute.

A very wise woman once told me that life is about the story we tell at the end of the chapter. If statistics are to be believed, I’m closer to the end of my life than the beginning. I’ve quit the race to see who can have the office with best view or the most impressive job title. I’ve made peace with the fact there are some of my early dreams/goals that will never be realized. I love who I am and the women I have become AND boy do I have stories to tell!
